Richard Garrison, is a second year Nutritional Sciences doctoral student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. He was born and raised in Dardanelle, Arkansas and graduated high school there. After high school, he received his BS in Biological Sciences from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He then worked as a Medical Technologist for 10 years in various hospitals throughout Arkansas. Upon returning to school in 2010, he completed a BS in Food, Human Nutrition & Hospitality from the University of Arkansas. Recently, he completed the Dietetic Internship at Texas Tech University and is now a Registered Dietitian. Texas Tech is the university he chose to complete his MS in Nutritional Sciences where his research focused on the comparison of inflammatory cytokine stimulation by linoleic acid and other fat-enriched diets in male C57Bl/6 mice. Currently, he is mentored by Dr. Moustaid-Moussa and is working on a doctoral research project investigating the possible anti-inflammatory effects of Switchgrass extracts. In the future, he would like to have a career in the field of nutrition with NASA or the World Health Organization. Hunting and fishing are his pastimes.
